Shin Godzilla — A Review

October 15, 2016

Of course I saw Shin Godzilla. Twice. I’m sorry it was only in the theater for 3 days. I’m even more sorry those three days were Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so it didn’t even get 1 decent weekend to rack up the ticket sales and prove how much of a fan base there is here in the US for Toho’s King of the Monsters. Still, Shin Godzilla brought in over…

Shin Godzilla Coming to Theaters: One Might Even Be Near You

September 16, 2016

That’s right Godzilla fans. Shin Godzilla will open at select Theaters in the US on October 11, 2016. I already have my ticket and let me tell you, an overnight trip wasn’t out of the question. Fair disclosure: As near as Godzilla Momma can tell, this movie is subtitled and not dubbed. It has broken box office records in Japan and is being hailed as a masterpiece. I’ve seen some…

The Great Wall — Is that a Whiff of the Kaiju?

July 29, 2016

So there’s this weird movie coming out from Legendary Entertainment and China Film Group Corporation called The Great Wall. I like weird. Especially weird with creatures. Legendary Entertainment is the studio that brought us Gareth Edwards Godzilla and is bringing us Kong: Skull Island. They’ve got creatures and weird down. It’s supposed to be the most expensive Chinese movie ever made and it stars Matt Damon. I kind of like…

Strangely Wonderful Doctor Strange 2nd Trailer

July 24, 2016

Oh yeah! The second trailer for Doctor Strange was dropped at SDCC, natch. It’s strangely wonderful. I am looking forward to this movie. So, of course, as we have known for some time, Benedict Cumberbatch is starring in this film as Doctor Strange, which is awesome. Some other notable stars include Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Karl Mordo. I enjoyed his portrayal of Vincent Kapoor in The Martian and so expect…

Shin Gojira/Godzilla Resurgence TV Spot

July 16, 2016

Yes there is a television commercial for Shin Gojira/Godzilla Resurgence. Take a look at this. Godzilla still seems raw, scarred. My sense is that this Godzilla will be more the monster than we’ve been accustomed to. More like the original Gojira was. I must confess that at first, when seeing those first images of the new design, I was a little uncertain about the eyes. They seemed small and somehow…

Mothra vs. Godzilla (Godzilla vs. The Thing)

March 2, 2016

1964 brings us the 4th movie in the Godzilla series and the addition of a new monster to the Godzilla menagerie: Mothra. Mothra had her first movie in 1961, separate from any interaction with Godzilla. In this movie we start to get a sense of who the regular actors will be in Godzilla movies. There are a number of actors that show up time and again in a variety of…

Toho Master Collection: Godzilla Raids Again (1955)

February 2, 2016

Released the year after the 1954 debut of Gojira, Godzilla Raids again is the second movie to feature the giant radioactive dinosaur and follows in the narrative footsteps of the first Godzilla movie. It is gritty and far more of a horror movie than the later movies are, especially the late 60’s early 70’s movies. The 70’s were not kind to Godzilla. The Americanized version starts with shots of atomic…

The Criterion Collection Presents Godzilla

January 18, 2016

The Criterion Collection Blu-Ray release of Godizlla is the original Gojira uncut and un-Americanized. It comes with an informative booklet that is very well done as well as commentary. There is no English version, (unless you watch the included Americanized King of the Monsters version) you get the options of subtitles or no. I like it better with subtitles anyway. The original actors get really into their roles while the…

10 Cloverfield Lane — Cloverfield Sequel?

January 16, 2016

10 Cloverfield Lane just burst upon the fandom world (well casual fandom anyway, I’m sure there were people who have been following it for quite a bit longer). There are a number of rumors swirling around the movie, the first I saw being that it might be a sequel to Cloverfield. There is some correlation that supports this. 10 Cloverfield Lane is a very secretive project, just like Cloverfield was….
